Do
I need a pet funeral home?
It all depends on what you want to do with your pet. If you
want to
cremate your pet so he can always be with you or burial in
a pet cemetery you need a pet funeral home. Sometimes you
can bury your pet in the backyard. This is not always the
best idea because it may not always be your backyard and it
would be very difficult to take your pet with you. Also the
next family may want to build a pool or it may become an apartment
complex.
Am
I the only one that cares for my pet this much?
Absolutely Not! All of our pets love us unconditionally, whether
we are in
a good mood or bad. We may feel at times in our lives that
a pet may be the
only one who really understands us or may have been with us
at a time when no human was there. In many cases our "pets"
are the only children we have and in some cases the only family
we have. A person develops an intense relationship with their
pet. It is normal for you and your family to grieve over the
loss of your pet.
What
do other people do?
Some people leave the disposition of their pet up to their
veterinarian or
the city. But there is no magical burial ground. Most veterinarians
and
cities don't have any choices and those pets generally are
taken to the landfill
or the rendering plant. Now with Pet Plantation your veterinarian
has the
ability to give you many options, just ask for our information.
Remember this is
your loved one and you should make all the arrangements for
the final
disposition.
Can
I pre-arrange my pet's funeral?
Now is the perfect time for pre-planning. Many people make
arrangements
ahead of time. We have experienced that families find it easier
to make
decisions regarding their pet's final arrangements before
the death occurs. At the time of your pet's death you are
under great stress and grief. We offer payment plans for pre-arrangements
and by pre-paying you freeze the price of the funeral. No
matter how many years go by or if something happens to you
your pet's plans will be arranged and paid for.
What
is cremation?
Cremation is simply the hastening of the natural processes
by a clean,
sanitary and entirely modern method, which is quickly effected
by a clean,
intense flame that returns the body to its original elements.
All that remains are the calcified bone fragments (cremated
remains), which are collected and
processed and placed in an urn of your choice or a temporary
container. The cremains are always kept separated and never
commingled unless group cremation (simple cremation) is selected.
What
are the types of cremation?
Pet Plantation offers 3 types of cremation.
PRIVATE: A Private Cremation is when your pet is cremated
by himself.
At no time are there any other pets inside the cremation equipment
while your
pet's cremation is taking place. You are assured that you
will receive the
cremated remains of your pet. We usually pickup your pet at
the
Veterinarian Hospital. If you need us to come to your home
arrangements can usually be made.
SEMI-PRIVATE: A Semi-Private Cremation is when your
pet is cremated with
4-6 other pets. Each pet is placed into his own cremation
tray. You are
assured that you will receive the cremated remains of your
pet. Please realize
that within the cremation chamber airborne particles from
each pet will mix
within all the cremains. We usually pickup your pet at the
Veterinarian Hospital. If you need us to come to your home
arrangements can usually be made.
GROUP CREMATION: A group cremation is a cremation that
is performed when
the owner does not want the cremated remains returned. The
pets are collected and cremated together. The cremated remains
cannot be returned and no cremation certificate is offered.
This type of cremation is also referred to as simple cremation.
If you want your pets cremains returned to you, please see
the information about private or semi-private cremation. We
usually pickup your pet at the Veterinarian Hospital. If you
need us to come to your home arrangements can usually be made.
How
do I know I'm getting my own pet back after cremation?
Pet Plantation has its own state of the art crematorium at
the funeral
home. You may come and observe the placement of your pet into
the crematorium. We have a system of checks and balances by
which we keep track of your pet. Whether your pet is picked
up at your veterinarian clinic or at your home there is an
authorization form filled out and an identification tag placed
on your pet before we leave. At the funeral home your pet
is given a cremation identification number on a metal disc.
This disc is kept with your pet
throughout the cremation process and stays with the cremains
when returned to the family.
Do
I need an urn and how do I know what size?
This is a personal decision. Today there are hundreds of styles
of urns
and many can be personalized for you, from handmade wood urns
to Keepsake
Jewelry. Most families choose an urn to memorialize their
pet. Each pound of your pet equals 1 cubic inch of urn space.
If your pet weighs 100 lbs. You would need an urn 100 cubic
inches (c.i.)
What
happens if my pet dies at night or on a weekend?
We have staff available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Just
call our office
number and our answering machine will give you our emergency
phone number.
You may call the number to reach us and we will help you in
any way. For a
small removal fee, we will come to your home to remove your
pet and bring him to our funeral home.
Can
I put toys with my pet?
Yes, you may place toys, letters, pictures most anything of
this nature
with your pet that makes you feel comfortable. The exceptions
are anything
metal or a toy with batteries.
